Joe Burrow struggles vs the Browns once again

Mondays aren't all bad, right? If football isn't enough to give some excitement to the week's first weekday, Halloween should do the trick. Combine the two, and you get the Browns vs. Bengals on Monday Night Football.

Cleveland, riding low on a four-game losing streak, hosted the Cincinnati Bengals who were fresh off back-to-back victories. With a 0-4 record throughout October, the Browns had one last shot at winning a football game this month as the final day of the month approached.

After four quarters of football, Cleveland did just that, besting their AFC North rivals from Cincinnati in dominant fashion - and had a little fun with it afterward.

When you think of a blowout, this is the type of contest that should come to mind. Not only did Cleveland enjoy a four-possession victory after three quarters, but the team held Burrow and company to a total of zero points during this timeframe.

A quarter later, the Browns walked away with a 32-13 win.

Quarterback Jacoby Brissett put on a show, logging 278 yards and a touchdown. Brissett finished the contest with a QB rating of 133.7, accompanied by a completion percentage of 77.3%.

Brissett's contributions were instrumental in making sure Joe Burrow retained a winless record against Cleveland throughout his career. The 25-year-old who appeared in a Super Bowl earlier this calendar year drops to 0-4 when these two clubs faceoff.

At the end of the '21 season, Joe Burrow was playing in the Super Bowl. On the other hand, Cleveland finished the year with a losing record.

So how can it be that Joe Burrow has never won a game against the Browns?

Burrow has played Cleveland four times since being drafted; twice during his rookie season, once last year, and a final time this Monday. Through it all, the first-overall pick in 2020 can't seem to walk away with a victory.

The two contests during his rookie season were close, with the Bengals losing by one possession each time. Combined, Burrow totaled 6 passing touchdowns and only one interception, surpassing the 300-yard mark through the air on both occasions.

His last two performances against Cleveland, though, have been disastrous.

During his meetup with the Browns last season, Burrow threw two interceptions with zero touchdowns on his way to a 16-41 blowout loss against his rivals in Ohio. On Monday, during his latest showdown against Cleveland, he was on the wrong side of a blowout once more.

Under Burrow, Cincinnati went three full quarters without putting up a single point on the scoreboard. Burrow recorded an interception early on, and in the meantime, it took nearly 45 minutes for the Bengals' offense to reach 100+ scrimmage yards.

Now down by four possessions with one quarter left to play, Burrow was able to dress up the stat column a bit by tossing two touchdowns, including one to Tee Higgins that put him north of 200 passing yards for the day.

His first few years haven't treated Burrow kindly when it comes to contests against the Browns, but the 25-year-old will have a chance to earn his first victory against Cleveland at the end of the season.
