Jordan Love suffered an injury in the Green Bay Packers season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. The quarterback was tangled in a tackle by Josh Sweat and Jalen Carter that popped his knee. After being helped off the field, there were concerns about his MCL and ankle.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Love was tested, and an initial return timetable is in three to six weeks. This could change, however, as the Packers could get a second opinion on this injury.

Packers QB Jordan Love's injury return timeline

Following a disappointing loss to the Eagles, the Packers will open the season at Lambeau Field on Sept. 15 against the Indianapolis Colts. Love could miss this duel and the matchups against the Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.

Except for the Cardinals, all these teams have playoff aspirations and facing them without Love behind the center will likely be an uphill battle for Green Bay. Fans showed excitement after watching Love get off the team's plane without a brace or assistance, but they must wait a little before the young star returns to action.

If all goes well, Love could return for the Week 8 clash against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct 27. Pelissero suggested that there's optimism to return earlier, pending a second opinion.

Jordan Love signed a four-year $220 million contract extension in July, but his campaign isn't off to the best start, more so knowing that this injury happened when there were just a couple of seconds left on the clock.

Update on Jordan Love injury:

As per new reports, the Packers QB will miss a few weeks with a Grade 1/2 MCL sprain. While there isn't a fixed timeline or date for his return, he would ideally miss around three to six weeks depending on his recovery.

Who will replace Jordan Love for the Packers?

Almost two weeks ago, the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans completed a trade for Malik Willis. He poses an intriguing option for the Packers as a backup, but nobody expected him to be back on the field this soon.

Willis didn't get the chance to prove his value in Tennessee, and joining a team famous for developing star quarterbacks could be the right step in his career. Then again, he doesn't have a full month with the squad and was already called to lead his new team's offense.

Willis played 11 games for the Titans, attempting 66 passes for 35 completions, 350 yards and three interceptions.

The Packers entered the 2024 season with high expectations after Jordan Love's impressive performances willed them to the playoffs in 2023. Willis will have weapons like Josh Jacobs, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and more to try to emulate what Love did.
