The Los Angeles Chargers were hoping for a positive Keenan Allen injury update ahead of their Week 9 contest against the Atlanta Falcons. However, the star receiver will not be playing when they make the trip to Atlanta this weekend.

Keenan Allen has been dealing with a hamstring injury that he suffered in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks. The Chargers were optimistic that Allen would recover during their bye week, but things seem to have gotten worse for the five-time Pro Bowler.

By his own admission, Allen's hamstring injury worsened while practicing with the team last week. The 30-year-old subsequently missed training sessions with the team on Monday and Wednesday. Los Angeles have ruled out Allen for the Week 9 game against the Falcons. The receiver spoke to reporters about his injury and said:

"Nothing happened in the game. Taking my time with it and just going through it how we planned it and just through the bye week, kind of hit it again. I don’t think it was a restraint or anything. It is just some more scar tissue that is trying to break off and whenever it is ready to heal, just got to let it do its own thing.”

Allen was utilized sparingly in the Seattle game and only lasted the first half. He returned to action after missing five games for the Chargers due to the same hamstring issue. While there is no definitive timeline for when Allen will return, the Chargers will be hoping that their receiver gets back into action sooner rather than later.
