Ladd McConkey has been the Los Angeles Chargers' top target for quarterback Justin Herbert this season. However, after being listed as DNP on the team's injury report on Wednesday due to a shoulder ailment, the rookie wideout has become an injury concern this week.
In the hopes of getting a positive result, the Chargers will probably need McConkey to be fully recovered for their road game against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.
After his limited participation in the Chargers' Friday and Saturday practices, McConkey is listed as questionable for the game, raising major concerns about his availability. On the plus side, though, the Chargers have reportedly not voiced any worries about him missing the crucial game against the Ravens.
Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston would be Los Angeles' receivers most likely charged to step up against Baltimore if McConkey were to miss out, though that is still up in the air at this time.
Ladd McConkey injury update: What happened to the Chargers WR?
Ladd McConkey suffered a shoulder injury in the victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11. After he caught a 20-yard pass in the first half of the game, Bengals safety Geno Stone tackled him close to the sideline, causing the injury. Following the tackle, McConkey gripped his shoulder and collarbone region, expressing pain.
The Chargers first assessed McConkey in the medical tent and determined that he was questionable to return. After returning to the game in the second quarter, he finished the game with six receptions for 123 yards, playing a crucial part in the victory.
After a quick evaluation, Ladd McConkey was able to resume playing, which indicates that the injury he sustained in that game does not have any long-term implications.
Making sure McConkey recovers fully will be a primary focus for the Chargers because of his significance to the offense. This season, he has more touchdowns than any other player on the Chargers' roster—four—and 43 catches for 615 yards.
If he plays, Ladd McConkey will likely be crucial to the team's scheme once again against the Baltimore Ravens on MNF in Week 12.
