The last thing the Baltimore Ravens need before their Week 9 game against the Denver Broncos is for important players like Lamar Jackson to be sidelined after their painful 29–24 loss to the Cleveland Browns last week.
Jackson, who hasn’t missed a game due to injury since the end of the 2022 season, played a full game last week. However, he seemed to have sustained some slight injuries in Week 8, which has resulted in several interesting headlines this week.
The superstar quarterback missed practice on Wednesday, which sparked speculations that he was just given a day off to rest, even though the team gave him a back/knee injury designation. Concerns that Jackson's injury is more severe than first believed grew on Thursday after his absence from practice again.
There were legitimate reasons to be concerned about Jackson since players who turn in DNP in practices during the week before a game, particularly on Thursday and Friday, typically have little chance of playing on Sunday.
The reigning NFL MVP was reportedly back in practice on Friday though, which is encouraging for his availability for the Ravens' game against the Denver Broncos.
Jackson has once again emerged as an early MVP favorite this season after leading the Ravens to a 5-3 start to the season. Ravens fans must have been disappointed by last week's defeat to the struggling Browns, but with Jackson potentially back to full strength, the team will have a better chance to bounce back on Sunday.
Lamar Jackson could play twice in five days in Weeks 9 and 10
Lamar Jackson may not have enough time to recover before playing the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night in Week 10, assuming he is eventually cleared to play against the Broncos this weekend.
Given that Jackson has missed two practice sessions this week, it is even more important to keep an eye on his condition during Sunday's game and the upcoming short week.
If Jackson plays but isn't fully healthy against the Broncos, the Ravens could think about depending more on the rushing prowess of Derrick Henry. After joining Baltimore in the offseason, Henry has nine rushing touchdowns and 946 rushing yards after eight outings, leading league in both categories.
