Marcus Mariota will enter NFL free agency this offseason after being released by the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday. The quarterback's time in Atlanta was cut short to just one season following a disappointing campaign in 2022.

Mariota was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on October 30, 1993. His mother's name is Alana Deppe-Mariota and his father is Toa Mariota.
The quarterback is of Samoan descent on his father's side and German descent on his mother's side. Alana and Toa are also parents to Matt, Marcus' younger brother. Like his older brother, Matt also plays football but not in the NFL.
Marcus' parents supported him throughout his college football career and encouraged him to take up the sport professionally. They were with him when he was picked second overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 NFL draft.

Marcus Mariota spent his first five seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. However, he was replaced as the team's starting quarterback by Ryan Tannehill midway through the 2019 season.
In 2020, he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, where he spent two seasons as a backup to Derek Carr.
Mariota then joined the Atlanta Falcons in 2022 but played only 13 games for the team before being benched for the remainder of the season. He finished his career in Atlanta by throwing for 2,219 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
The quarterback has played in the NFL for eight seasons and has racked up 15,656 passing yards, throwing 92 touchdowns and 54 interceptions. He has 2,012 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground.
