Week 1 of the 2024 fantasy football season will conclude with a Monday Night Football matchup between the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers. Several players from both teams bring fantasy value this year, but not all of them should be used in lineups this week.

The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the best offenses in the NFL in recent years and several of their players have been elite options in fantasy football. The 2024 season will likely be a similar story for them, but they enter an extremely difficult matchup in Week 1 against the New York Jets. They were a top-five defense in multiple categories last year.
While most of the 49ers' players should still be used in lineups, their upside may be limited by their weekly matchup. The Jets' key offensive players are in a different situation despite the 49ers also having an elite defense. With the return of Aaron Rodgers, their offense as a whole should receive a major boost.
Garrett Wilson is projected to be the biggest beneficiary of an upgraded quarterback. He has already been highly productive in one of the worst QB situations in the entire NFL as he has exceeded 1,000 receiving yards in both of his seasons so far. He could elevate to the next level with a healthy Rodgers, so despite his Week 1 matchup, his ceiling is extremely high.
Here are the rest of the players who join Wilson as solid fantasy football starters from this matchup.
Must Starts
- Christian McCaffrey
- Breece Hall
- Garrett Wilson
- Deebo Samuel
- George Kittle

MNF 49ers vs Jets Week 1 Fantasy Football Sit 'Em picks
While Aaron Rodgers is expected to boost the Jets offense, he is better off avoided in fantasy football lineups for Week 1. He is coming off an Achilles injury and facing one of the best pass-rushing defenses in the NFL, so his upside is limited this week.
Except for Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson, the rest of the Jets' fantasy players should be left on the bench. As for the 49ers, their skill position starters have too much value to bench in season-long leagues, but Brandon Aiyuk makes sense as a fade for DFS after a lengthy holdout during the offseason.
Here are others who join him as players to avoid:
Must Sits
- Aaron Rodgers
- Brock Purdy
- Tyler Conklin
- Mike Williams
- Allen Lazard
- Malachi Corley
DFS Fades
- Aaron Rodgers
- Brock Purdy
- Tyler Conklin
- Brandon Aiyuk
