Giants vs. Panthers summary

The Giants offense didn't get off to a bright start and the Panthers took the lead in the first quarter when Young combined with Ja'Tavion Sanders for a 5-yard touchdown. Eddy Pineiro converted the extra point as Carolina led 7-0 after the first quarter.

Carolina extended its advantage just five seconds into the second quarter when Pineiro made a 53-yard field goal. The Panthers went on to lead 10-0 at halftime.

The Giants finally got on the scoresheet in the third quarter when Tyrone Tracy Jr. rushed for a 32-yard touchdown. Graham Gano converted the extra point as New York made its way back into the contest.

However, the Panthers restored their 10-point cushion when Chuba Hubbard rushed for a 1-yard score. Pineiro converted the extra point.

New York opened the scoring in the fourth quarter when Jones rushed for a 2-yard score. Gano converted the extra point to cut Carolina's lead to three points. The Giants then drew level in the closing seconds of the game when Gano made a 42-yard field goal.

It finished 17-17 at the end of regulation time, forcing the game to head into overtime.

The Carolina Panthers scored soon into overtime when Pineiro made a 36-yard field goal and clinched a 20-17 win over New York.

This was the Giants' eighth defeat of the season and their fifth in a row. Meanwhile, the Panthers won their second straight game and improved to a 3-7 record.
