Sean Payton needed a top-tier running back after losing Javonte Williams in free agency to the Dallas Cowboys. On Tuesday, he got it in the form of divisional rival JK Dobbins.
But the Denver Broncos also drafted RJ Harvey in the second round, one and a half months before the signing happened. The question now is, how will the team handle them?
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday via DenverSports.com, the veteran head coach provided an update on the rookie's prospects of becoming the starter next season:

“He’s doing well. We haven’t given him his joker wings or any of that yet, but he’s doing well.”

It stands in stark contrast to the lofty comparisons that Harvey made after watching film of Payton's former New Orleans Saints rushers Alvin Kamara and Darren Sproles during last month's rookie minicamp:
“Watching those choice routes and everything… Definitely want to be like those guys, you know, like Darren Sproles. He went crazy with the Saints. Kamara, too. So, I want to be better than those guys.”
Speaking on Dobbins, Payton praised the former LA Charger as "another good football player" who was "going to help the competition":
"The good runners, they have a little spaghetti sauce to the recipe that's important. I don't want to make comparisons to him because I haven't been with him long enough, but when you see the consistency, it's not an accident."
Sean Payton weighs in on Broncos' WR situation
On the aerial side of the offense, Sean Payton will still have Courtland Sutton as their primary wideout, complemented by tight end Evan Engram, who joined from the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, the rest of the corps still leaves much to be desired – not helped by the absence of Devaughn Vele during minicamp.
Nevertheless, the WR situation is "all good" for him, as he said during the same media session:
“We’ve had great attendance. We’re very much aware each day if someone has an event or doing something. All good.”
Meanwhile, he added praise for "tough" third-round rookie Pat Bryant:
"I like bigger receivers. He’s good at the line of scrimmage. I would say he has exceptionally strong hands in traffic. So it’s not that I don’t like smaller receivers, I do, but the bigger receivers that can block and are physical at the line of scrimmage… He showed those traits.”
The Broncos' minicamp is set to conclude on Thursday.
