Aaron Rodgers was away during the New York Jets' bye week, attending a reunion of his former college football team in Berkeley, California. While there, he remained unaware of the "reports" circulating on social media about him, as he tends to avoid baseless football chatter.
During Tuesday's appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," the 4x NFL MVP was asked about a report from The Athletic's Diani Russini, who wrote that the Jets QB could be cut after the 2024 season and that the Jets will move on from him. This move would mark the third major firing incident in the Jets after HC Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas' firings.
Rodgers initially joked about the report, and said that it was the "truth," but later went on to clear the air about rumors being disguised as "reports."
"I don't talk to that person. There's obviously people that she talks with. I don't understand what the motivation would be, or what you think you're getting out of that," Rodgers told McAfee.
He added that he did not tell anyone that he did not want to play with the Jets in 2025.
"I haven't told anybody in my life that I wanna play in 2025 and not on the Jets. That's 100% false and I actually said the opposite. I don't even know if I wanna play yet but New York would be my first option"
Aaron Rodgers added that he would wait till the end of the season to assess his future, and if the Jets want him back and if the situation in the building is calmer, he would love to return to the team. Rodgers added that he made some really close friendships in the team, and while they might not have had the success they were expecting, he would still like to play for the organization.
