The Green Bay Packers, led by Aaron Rodgers, lost their fifth straight game after suffering a defeat against the Detroit Lions in Week 9. The Packers' offense had another miserable performance as they scored just nine points against the worst defense in the league.
Rodgers threw three interceptions in the game and that had a huge impact on the outcome. Rodgers hasn't played well this season, and a large part of the Packers' woes are due to him.
NFL analyst Myles Simmons recently went off on Rodgers because of his performance against the Lions. He believes we are seeing the end of the Packers quarterback's career. Here's what he said on Sunday Night Football:
"I don't know what's going on. He looks like he's going to a bizarro funeral with all of that black on. I don't know what's going on there. And maybe it's just in some ways the death of his career. Because look, those are three bad interceptions that he threw yesterday. They're just bad."
Simmons added:
"I just, I can't imagine how it must be in that building to come into work every day if you're the Packers right now, because it must be freakin' miserable. When your quarterback, who is a back to back MVP, who calls people out publicly, who's probably not the most fun person in the world to work with, is going out and playing then like this."
He went on to say:
"And he doesn't have any trust with his receivers and it's just that must be a miserable place to go into work every day right now."
Against the Detroit Lions, Aaron Rodgers threw for 288 yards and a touchdown along with three huge interceptions. He had a passer rating of 53.2 and the Packers are now 3-6.
The Green Bay Packers failed to acquire any receivers ahead of the trade deadline. If they miss out on Odell Beckham Jr. as well, the playoffs will seem like a pipedream. With all this going on, people have started to murmer about benching the legendary quarterback.
Should the Packers bench Aaron Rodgers and give Jordan Love a chance?
The Packers are currently 3-6 and their remaining fixtures are quite tough compared to the teams that they have already faced so far. If they lose a game or two, they are basically out of playoff contention.
It could be a good opportunity to give Jordan Love some playing time, and the franchise could sit down with Aaron Rodgers and plan for next season. It seems unlikely that Rodgers will retire, but he could move somewhere else. Otherwise, the franchise could start planning on bringing in reinforcements in the offseason to keep him in Green Bay.
This is not going to happen this week. With Green Bay at 3-6, they are down but not out. If they lose the next two games then anything could happen, but that's not yet come to pass. Though many are counting them out, the Packers are certainly not giving up.
We will see if Aaron Rodgers can turn it around in the coming weeks.
