Packers to bench Aaron Rodgers? QB's former teammate claims - "I don't think he'd be offended by it"

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are on a five-game losing streak after suffering a defeat against the Detroit Lions in Week 9. The four-time NFL MVP has looked far from his best in the 2022 season. Rodgers' former teammate, wide receiver Greg Jennings, said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur should consider benching the superstar quarterback.

Appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Jennings suggested that the 38-year-old star quarterback wouldn't be offended if benched. Here's how he put it:

"I don't think he'd be offended by it. I think you try to save face when you're talking about your fan base, because this is not a team that we ever expect to tank. I wouldn't say that this is why they would do it just to tank. That's not what they're about."

Jennings added:

"They have a three-game gauntlet, with the Dallas Cowboys, the Tennessee Titans, and then the Philadelphia Eagles on the road. Like, you lose two of those three? I believe you start Jordan Love if you lose all those three. Yeah, you might as well just insert him. That's because for me, the season is a loss."

The last time the Green Bay Packers lost five straight games in a season was in the 2008 campaign, which was Rodgers' first in the NFL. Green Bay finished the season with a 6-10 record, with Jennings playing for the team. Looking at this season, should LaFleur consider benching the Super Bowl-winning quarterback?

Who would be the Packers starting QB if Aaron Rodgers is benched?

If Aaron Rodgers is benched, LaFleur will likely turn to backup Jordan Love under center. Love was selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Utah State. The 24-year-old didn't play a single snap in his rookie campaign.

In the 2021 season, the former Utah State quarterback started one game, which came against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9. Rodgers was out of the game due to COVID-19 protocols.

Love has played in two games this season, throwing nine passes in total for 73 yards. The young quarterback was seen as the heir to Aaron Rodgers when drafted, but the four-time All-Pro is still the starting quarterback for the Packers. We'll see if Love takes over from Rodgers as the starter as the season draws to a close.
