After months of rumors and speculation, Aaron Rodgers is finally a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Thursday, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero broke the news on X that the four-time league MVP would be signing with the Mike Tomlin-led Steelers on Friday.
"Renegade A-Rod: Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers informed the #Steelers he’ll fly to Pittsburgh on Friday and sign before next week’s minicamp, sources tell The Insiders. Finally, a done deal: Rodgers, 41, will play his 21st NFL season in black and gold," Pelissero wrote.

The Steelers confirmed the signing of Rodgers, noting how the contract would be a one-year deal.

Shortly after the news was official, former NFL quarterback and teammate of Rodgers, Kurt Benkert, took to X to share his thoughts on the signing. Citing how the Steelers are a solid team, Benkert highlighted how the team will be a must-watch next season.
"The Steelers defense this year will be one of the better defenses Aaron Rodgers has played with in his career. If he can get back to his efficiency play, with a nasty run game. They are poised to be an uncomfortable team to play against," Benkert tweeted on Thursday.
What will Aaron Rodgers bring to the Pittsburgh Steelers?
Although he is now 41 and past the prime of his career, Aaron Rodgers is arguably the best quarterback the Pittsburgh Steelers have had since Ben Roethlisberger.
In 2022, the Steelers averaged the 24th-most passing yards per game in the NFL. In 2023, Pittsburgh ranked No. 25 and in 2024, the team was 27th.
Pittsburgh's offensive unit looks drastically different than last season, with both WR George Pickens and RB Najee Harris leaving the club this offseason. However, the team did well in finding new talent by means of trade and the 2025 NFL draft. Pittsburgh traded for WR DK Metcalf, someone whom Rodgers has trained with this offseason, and drafted RB Kaleb Johnson out of Iowa.
As a result, with Rodgers now confirmed to be joining the franchise, the Steelers project to be one of the most interesting teams in the NFL in 2025.
