“They drafted my replacement and I won MVP twice” – Aaron Rodgers throws shade at Packers

The Green Bay Packers used their first-round pick in 2020 to draft quarterback Jordan Love. The team thought so highly of Love as a prospect that they traded up four spots with the Miami Dolphins to select the Utah State quarterback.

Some thought the move was puzzling as they still had Aaron Rodgers coming off of a 13-3 season prior to selecting Love.

Speaking on the "Aubrey Marcus Podcast," Rodgers threw shade at the Packers for drafting Love:

“I didn’t quite understand what we were doing at times on offense and my job was to take care of the football, and I did… But I felt there was so much more. And then they drafted my replacement and I won MVP twice.”

Rodgers won league MVPs in 2020 and 2021. Rodgers went 13-3 in both seasons and led the Packers to the playoffs, winning the NFC North division two years in a row. He threw for 8,414 yards, 85 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Love didn't play at all as a rookie in 2020. He started one game in 2021 to replace an injured Rodgers, but lost. Love appeared in four games last season with minimal action.

In his three years in the league, he's completed 60.2 percent of passes for 606 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Will Jordan Love be the Packers starting quarterback in 2023?

2023 could finally be the year that Jordan Love has been waiting for. The team awaits a decision from Aaron Rodgers on whether he wants to be traded (or retire), and it seems they are ready to roll with Love in that scenario.

GM Brian Gutekunst said that the next step for Love is to play.

Even if Rodgers comes back, there's a chance that the team may look to move on from him. Love will be entering the fourth year of his NFL career at the young age of 24, and he may get his chance at being the starting quarterback this year.
