Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs survived a scare yesterday as they defeated the Houston Texans 30-24 in overtime.

Mahomes had an immaculate game, completing 36 out of 41 passes for 336 yards and two touchdowns.

The Chiefs were on the brink of getting upset by the 1-11-1 Texans, but the Chiefs capped off the game with Jerick McKinnon scoring a 26-yard game-winning touchdown run.

Head coach Andy Reid praised Mahomes and his leadership for yesterday's victory and gave a bold take, saying that he should be MVP.

Reid said:

“You saw Pat and what he did. I mean, he took care of business today. He went back to work and worked on it. I mean, you’re talking about a guy that, if he’s not the MVP in the league, I’m not sure what’s wrong with them."

He continued:

“But he cleaned it up and comes out, and we have almost 500 yards of offense, minus 100 of penalties. That’s a pretty spectacular day there. But that’s what he did. Great example of how you go back to the drawing board and make sure that you clean everything up.”

Patrick Mahomes is looking to add to his trophy collection. At age 27, he's already won a Super Bowl and an MVP.

In his second season in the NFL, he took over as the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs when the team moved on from Alex Smith. Mahomes had one of the best quarterback seasons in NFL history.

He threw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns with a passer rating of 113.8. The Chiefs went 12-4 and won the AFC West while leading KC to the AFC Championship game.

The following season, he led the Chiefs to another divisional title and brought them to the Super Bowl. They defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 and he became the third-youngest Super Bowl MVP.

This season, Mahomes has leads the league with 4,496 passing yards and 35 touchdowns, while having a passer rating of 105, competing 64% of passes.

Other MVP candidates include Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, and Josh Allen. Hurts is still the current favorite at -145 with Mahomes being a close second at +170.

The race for the MVP is close, and whoever has the best last few weeks will take home the award.
