Anthony Richardson has had a disappointing last few seasons in Indianapolis. Once one of the most exciting players in the league after being selected as the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL draft, Richardson has struggled with both injury and performance since entering the league.

Before last season, fans and analysts were projecting elite-level play from Richardson in his second campaign in the NFL. Many analysts, including Yahoo Sports' Dalton Del Don, even highlighted how Richardson could be the QB1 in fantasy football in 2024, something that saw fantasy football managers drastically reach to acquire the former Florida Gators QB.

However, 2024 was a disaster for Richardson, as he suffered more injuries and played arguably the worst football of his career. His completion percentage dropped from 59.5% to 47.7%, he averaged only 164.9 passing yards per game, and he had more turnovers than he had touchdowns (eight passing touchdowns, six rushing touchdowns, 12 interceptions, seven fumbles).

Furthermore, at one point, he removed himself from a game due to being tired, something that was heavily criticized by former players and the media. As a result, 2025 is a big year for Richardson to show that he has what it takes to be a starting QB in the NFL.

However, as reported by NFL analyst Jonathan Jones, Richardson has suffered another injury at this time, one that appears to be a reaggravation of a former AC joint injury. However, the good news for Richardson is that he is expected to be back for the start of training camp.

"My understanding of Colts QB Anthony Richardson's injury is that he's dealing with inflammation in the surgically repaired AC joint and the recommendation is rest. The belief is this will not impact his availability for the start of training camp," Jones tweeted on Thursday.

Anthony Richardson 2025 outlook

The Colts have an interesting QB situation developing this offseason. The team signed Daniel Jones this offseason, something that creates a QB competition with Richardson in Indianapolis. Although Jones has not played elite football in his career either, Richardson has less of a proven record of success and consistent play in the NFL.

As a result, Richardson will need to show that he can lead an NFL franchise to success next year, something he proved at the college football level, if he wants to remain a starting QB in the league moving forward.

According to Bet365, Richardson is slightly favored to be the starting QB in Week 1 of the 2025 season at -150, followed by Jones at +115 and Riley Leonard at +5500.
