Not all is well in the Denver Broncos' world.
The team slipped to 4-11 after Baker Mayfield and the Los Angeles Rams put on a clinic to beat Denver 51-14. Mayfield finished the game with two touchdown passes and only four incompletions, his best performance by some distance this season.
On the flip side, Russell Wilson tossed three interceptions and finished the game with 214 passing yards and one touchdown pass. The Broncos quarterback was also sacked six times in a pitiful display by the entire team.
To make matters worse, things got heated on the Broncos' bench as a couple of players got into a brief physical altercation during the third quarter. After Wilson suffered another sack, backup quarterback Brett Rypien approached the offensive lineman to give them a piece of his mind and defend Wilson.
Guard Dalton Risner was in no mood to hear Rypien's rant and shoved the backup quarterback. The rest of the team gathered and separated the two. Wide receiver Montrell Washington pulled Rypien to the side while the rest of the offensive linemen ensured Risner stayed as far from the quarterback as possible.
Broncos' miserable afternoon in LA
Late in the fourth quarter, Rypien entered the game and had the Broncos' offense at the Rams' 23-yard line. But a pass intended for a teammate was intercepted by Cobie Durant, who returned it for a touchdown to cap off his team's brilliant performance.
This marked the third time in 13 seasons that the Broncos have conceded 50 points in a game. It happened last during the 2017 season when the Philadelphia Eagles beat them 51-23. The 37-point margin of defeat is the biggest the Broncos have suffered since the 2010 season when the Oakland Raiders thrashed them 59-14.
The Broncos' misery will likely extend until the final game of the regular season as they face the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers in their next two games. It's been a forgettable year for Denver and it could potentially get worse in the next two games.
