Kareem Hunt is on the path to redemption in his second stint in Kansas City, his first one with the Chiefs being abruptly halted by the reveal of a grisly hotel attack on a woman. In 2023, he had helped the Cleveland Browns reach the playoffs for the third time since reactivation and wasn't rewarded for filling in for a gravely injured Nick Chubb.

As the Chiefs visit the Browns on Sunday, which has led to major regrets for coach Kevin Stefanski, whose team has fallen out of contention once again without the man he respects greatly and considers "elite" in multiple aspects.

When asked about why the one-time Pro Bowler wasn't extended, he said during media availability on Wednesday to Tony Grossi:

“There’s always roster decisions that are made for a variety of reasons.”

Nick Chubb happy for Kareem Hunt as Browns host Chiefs

Kareem Hunt's role in saving the Browns in 2023 cannot be understimated. In the Week 2 game at the Pittsburgh Steelers, Nick Chubb got his knee destroyed on a low hit by safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, with a subsequent diagnosis revealing a torn MCL and damage to the ACL, ending his season. Facing a dearth of quality running backs, Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry turned to the then-free agent.

He did admirably, scoring nine touchdowns in 15 games (two started). After going unsigned during the offseason, Kareem Hunt joined the Chiefs in relief of an injured Isiah Pacheco and has continued his momentum.

Now finding his friend on the other side of the field, Chubb cannot help but salivate at the prospect of seeing Hunt again on Sunday. He said:

"Excited for him, for sure... I had a chance to get to meet him, play with him, which I'm blessed (for), he's more than a teammate, he's a brother. So to see him get to go back, he always expressed how much Kansas City meant to him, so to see him go back there and have success, I know that's what he's always dreamed of. So I'm proud of him, happy for him."

Kickoff for the game is at 1 p.m. ET/ 12 p.m. CT on CBS.
