The Kansas City Chiefs could claim the number one seed in the AFC this Sunday with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders. But the rules and playoff scenarios could become a bit more complicated after the fixture.
The National Football League announced on Thursday that the game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals had officially been postponed. The league also announced that neutral sites and coin flips would help determine the location of some AFC playoff games.
Kansas City could host the AFC playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium, but only if the matchup isn't against the Buffalo Bills or Cincinnati Bengals.
This is due to the fact that the NFL has decided that if the AFC title game comes down to two teams who have played an 'unequal amount of games', then the game would have to be played at a neutral site. Those sites have yet to be announced.
If the Bengals lose to the Ravens on Sunday afternoon, a coin flip will determine the location of the game because once again, there is an uneven amount of games played. Since the Monday Night Football game was declared a 'no contest', the Bengals were declared the winners of the AFC North.
But, if the Bengals had lost to the Bills, then the season finale against the Ravens would have decided the division winner.
The National Football League has said that these rules were revised and then put into place so that there could be overall fairness for all AFC teams. Commissioner Roger Goodell and the rules committee presented these to the NFL owners in a meeting on Friday morning and all approved the new revisions.

The Kansas City Chiefs need just a victory over the Raiders on Saturday to clinch the number one seed in the AFC. The Chiefs will travel to the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the Week 18 matchup.
Kansas City has won 14 of their last 16 matchups against the Raiders, which includes the last four meetings. The Chiefs also lead the matchup with an all-time 71-54-2 record. So, needless to say, this does fall in favor of the Chiefs.
But, Raiders new starting quarterback Jarrett Stidham will be making his first career start against the AFC West divisional foes. Stidham looked sharp against the San Francisco 49ers, even though his team lost late in that contest. Kansas City are 4-1 in their last five games and 13-3 in AFC West divisional play this season.
