Carson Wentz landing spots: Top 3 NFL teams who could use backup QB help

Washington Commanders v Houston Texans
Where is Carson Wentz going next?

Carson Wentz was released by the Washington Commanders this offseason. After trading for him, the team expected him to provide stability at that position but he could not. He was benched for Taylor Heinicke and even Sam Howell got a start.

Howell is the perceived starter going forward, especially with Heinicke signing with the Atlanta Falcons. Even still, the Commanders wanted nothing to do with Wentz in the future.

For now, he's a free agent. Next season, though, he could be one of the top backups in the NFL. Here are a few teams that might be interested in bringing the former MVP candidate into their QB room.

Three potential Carson Wentz landing spots

3) Indianapolis Colts

This time, the Indianapolis Colts' addition of Carson Wentz will be nothing like the first time. They traded for him so he could be their guy, but they traded him away just one season later.

They're still in need of a quarterback and are likely to draft one of Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson or Will Levis at the fourth overall pick. They'll need a mentor for him and he's familiar with the Colts. At the right price, this could be a perfect pairing for the new era in Indianapolis.

2) Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are exploring their options at quarterback. They're not sold on Ryan Tannehill as the future of their franchise (or maybe not even the present). As a result, they may look to add some competition or a new face to start. Since they pick too low for a viable rookie quarterback, they might want to explore another veteran.

When they added Tannehill, he was coming off a very disappointing stint with the Miami Dolphins. He morphed into a solid quarterback, so the same could theoretically happen with Wentz.

He won't cost a lot and the worst-case scenario for a potential signing is that they have a cheap, high-level backup to Tannehill.

It also appears that they're not exactly sold on second-year quarterback Malik Willis, but they could bring in Wentz to help him if they move on from Tannehill.

1) Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are almost assuredly going to draft either Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud in the NFL Draft. Whichever prospect the Carolina Panthers don't take is likely going to Houston. They're likely to move on from Davis Mills at this point.

Most NFL teams like to have a veteran backup for a rookie quarterback. It's not someone they want to continue building around and he's not been in the league long enough to truly mentor the young star.

Enter Carson Wentz, who has been around and been with so many teams that he knows a thing or two. He may not have the skill anymore, but the knowledge is there.

His experience can undoubtedly help whatever quarterback the Texans draft, so look for them to be interested in the backup quarterback market.
