Jeff Saturday was hired as the interim head coach of the Indianapolis Colts after Jim Irsay fired Frank Reich after Week 9 of the regular season.

Irsay was familiar with Saturday, who played 13 seasons with the franchise at the center position. As the longtime Colts owner is still in search of a permanent head coach, he may not leave the organization in hiring one.

According to Oddschecker, the former Colts star is the odds-on favorite to get the job full-time. There's slight competition with Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris per the website. According to Oddschecker:

"Saturday is given -175 odds, or an implied 63.6% chance to land the full-time job. His biggest competition is considered to be Raheem Morris, who’s given +375 odds or an implied 21.1% chance to land the job."

It’s long been believed that Irsay wants to hire Jeff Saturday for the position, but several rounds of interviews imply that this is not a done deal.

Nonetheless, it’s hard to disregard the fact that the former Colts star is still in contention when he’s been endorsed by Irsay. It stands to reason that the franchise will go with another choice, but Saturday is the clear favorite.

Saturday's hiring this season wasn't well received by Colts fans or the NFL world, especially given his coaching experience. Prior to becoming the Colts' interim head coach, Saturday coached for three seasons at Hebron Christian Academy High School in Georgia from 2017 to 2019. He had a 20-16 overall record as their head coach in those three seasons.

Jeff Saturday' record as Colts interim head coach is one to forget

In the eight games that Jeff Saturday coached with the Indianapolis Colts, he compiled a record of 1-7. His lone win came in his first game as interim head coach in Week 10, defeating the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Colts followed that up by losing seven straight games to end the season under Saturday. The offense was last in points per game with Saturday at the helm.

The Colts last made the playoffs back in the 2020 season under Reich, but have been 13-20-1 since.

We will see if Irsay does decide to hire Jeff Saturday, or if someone else can beat him to the role this offseason.
