Deshaun Watson return: When will Browns QB play his first NFL game of the season?

Deshaun Watson set to return to the fold for Browns

Deshaun Watson has not yet suited up for the Cleveland Browns this season. He played in the pre-season with mixed results but has not yet played an official snap for the Browns.

However, that will soon change. Watson was handed an 11-game ban, and he has currently served nine of those. In two weeks, the quarterback will be eligible to return and hopefully turn Cleveland's season around.

What week is Deshaun Watson coming back for the Browns?

Watson will be eligible to play Week 13 against the Houston Texans, his former team. His first action since last playing in Week 17 of the 2020 NFL season will be against the team he last donned the uniform for.

Since Cleveland's bye week was in Week 9, the embattled quarterback will effectively be out for 12 weeks since only 11 games will be played in those games.

In his stead, Jacoby Brissett has been the starter. The Browns have meandered to a 3-6 record without Watson and are currently in third place, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for last place.

They're three games back of the Baltimore Ravens right now.

Brissett has completed nearly 64% of his passes for 2,074 yards in nine games. He's thrown eight touchdowns and five interceptions.

It will be difficult for Watson to potentially have to win five games to get them in as a potential wild card playoff team. Given how they've struggled thus far, that might be out of the question by the time Watson returns.

The reason Deshaun Watson was out so long

The controversial quarterback missed so many games due to a lengthy suspension handed down from the league. After he allegedly sexually assaulted over 30 women, the NFL was forced to step in.

The arbiter initially gave the quarterback a measly six-game suspension, which the league did not think was fair. They appealed the decision and it was extended to 11 games and a fine.

There was a lot of talk about potentially banning the quarterback for a full season or more, but that ultimately did not happen.
