The Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey agreed to a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension that now makes him the highest-paid in the league. The news, which was reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Cameron Wolfe, was reportedly agreed upon earlier this week.
Ramsey, who has been dealing with a hamstring injury, decided to wait to release the news until he returned to practice. The announcement of the three-year deal, of course, caused social media to erupt with comments about the deal.
NFL fans began predicting what New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner would make when he signs an extension. Gardner insinuated earlier in the week that he was ready to sign an extension after his teammate Michael Carter II signed a lucrative deal.

Fans who commented on the post were shocked that cornerbacks were now receiving money close to that of wide receivers. Ramsey is just the late cornerback to sign a lucrative deal this week.
Aside from the Jets' Michael Carter II, the Denver Broncos signed their corner Patrick Surtain II to a four-year deal worth $96 million.

"Ramsey had two years left on his deal, and he strikes right after PS2, love timing the market well. He's currently 29, so the 5 total years will take him to age 34. Impressive he was able to cash in on a third deal at CB after taking a 5 yr deal for his second contract."-one user on X said
Aside from the shock of Jalen Ramsey getting his second contract extension of his career, some felt the Miami Dolphins were spending too much money this offseason and that it wouldn't pay off in the long run.
Others said that Ramsey's agent worked overtime to get him a contract of that magnitude. Ramsey played in just 10 games in the 2023 NFL season and had five defended passes and three interceptions.

Details of Jalen Ramsey's contract extension
The Miami Dolphins traded for cornerback Jalen Ramsey in March 2023 after he spent three and a half seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. The 29-year-old, who was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars, inked a lucrative five-year, $105 million contract extension with the Rams in September 2020. At the time, he was the highest-paid cornerback.
This new deal will put him right back at the top once again. The three-year deal worth $72.3 million will now pay the Miami Dolphins cornerback $24.1 million a season. According to Adam Schefter, $55.3 million is guaranteed in this deal.
Jalen Ramsey's deal narrowly surpasses the $24 million a season that Patrick Surtain II agree to earlier this week with the Broncos.
