The New England Patriots signed Stefon Diggs in free agency in the hopes that the seasoned wide receiver would be the top target for second-year quarterback Drake Maye in 2025.
Diggs is slowly returning to full fitness after tearing his ACL while playing with the Houston Texans last season. Over the past few weeks, he has participated in the Patriots' team meetings and performed some on-field duties.
Diggs has been able to speak with Maye face-to-face since he is already in the building, and based on the quarterback's recent remarks, it seems the two have started creating an off-field relationship.

Following the first day of the team's mandatory minicamp on Monday, Maye told reporters that Diggs is "an awesome teammate.”

"He’s my locker mate, one down from beside me," Maye said. "We talk all the time. Once he recovers, and he’s getting back out there, I’m looking forward to being able to throw him some footballs. It’s always good to have a guy like that on your team.
"He’s a veteran in this league. He’s made a lot of plays and played in a lot of big-time games. It's just an awesome voice for the receiver room for this offense. He’s played in some playoff games. He’s had some big games."
Diggs' recovery appears to be proceeding smoothly, and he is expected to be healthy enough to return to action for the opening regular season game.
Last season was Stefon Diggs' 10th in the NFL. He entered the league as a fifth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2015 NFL draft.
He has also played for the Bills and briefly for the Texans. Diggs enjoyed a run of six seasons with 1,000 yards and four seasons with at least 100 catches before the ACL injury he sustained last year.

Additionally, the Patriots selected wide receiver Kyle Williams with the 69th pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft. The Washington State product will be a fast and effective weapon for the squad.
