As the Harbaugh brothers faced each other on Monday Night Football, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning followed along on ManningCast. The two former quarterbacks have experience facing each other on the field and know all about sibling rivalries in the context of the NFL.

Prior to the game between the Chargers and Ravens, Scott Van Pelt asked them to share their experiences and they had different recollections of those matchups. Peyton Manning won all the three times he faced his younger brother and that allowed him to take a broader view of the whole thing, saying,

"Obviously, we won all three times, Scott. That probably helped out a little bit, as well. But tough on the families. Tough on the siblings."

Eli Manning, who was on the losing side, was more blunt and commented,

"I hated it, basically."

Exploring the three times Peyton Manning faced Eli Manning

Peyton Manning played for two teams in the NFL: the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos. Both these franchises play in the AFC. Eli Manning played his whole career with the New York Giants in the NFC. The younger sibling was drafted first overall in 2004, six years after his elder brother was selected with the same pick.

Peyton Manning retired in 2016, which meant that his career overlapped with Eli Manning for a dozen seasons. Given that outside divisions come around in four-year cycles, that equates to the three times they faced each other.

The first time they came face-to-face was in the 2006 season. The Colts defeated the Giants 26-21 in their opening matchup away from home and the year would conclude with Indianapolis winning its first Super Bowl after the franchise moved to the city.

The next time they met was in 2010. The Giants lost 38-14 at the Lucas Oil Stadium away from home in their second match of the season. New York would finish 10-6 and miss the postseason.

They then faced each other for the last time in their careers in 2013. By this time, Peyton Manning had moved to Denver but this game took place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The younger brother lost this matchup 41-23 in Week 2.

Eli Manning trails his older brother in their head-to-head record. However, both of them retired with two championships apiece, with the younger sibling having the bragging rights of having won the Super Bowl MVP twice compared to one for Peyton.
