EXCLUSIVE: Former NFL HC believes the worst is yet to come for Aaron Rodgers and Packers

The Green Bay Packers' sluggish start to the 2022 NFL season has taken many NFL fans and analysts by surprise. Despite being blessed with the arm-talent of Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, the NFC North franchise finds itself 3-5 after losing four games in a row.

The Packers have looked like a shell of their former selves over the past few weeks. While appearing on Sportskeeda's BallFather podcast with Reggie Roberts, former Atlanta Falcons HC Mike Smith explained their situation:

"They're three-and-five and have lost four in a row. They're four games behind the Vikings. Not only that, they are in the loss column. They've already lost one head-to-head. So that really makes them four and a half."

And according to Smith, things will only get more difficult for the franchise as the weeks roll on:

"If they don't win this week, it's really a problem because they got the Detroit Lions. But then the following three weeks, they got the Dallas Cowboys, the Tennessee Titans and the Philadelphia Eagles. Over the next month, you talk about murderers' row and you know this, this is tough."

Smith further went on to note how the Packers' struggles were down to overall poor play and especially the lack of quality wide receivers at Aaron Rodgers' disposal:

"They've struggled on both sides of the football. And it's well-documented that they don't have any receivers. Aaron can't throw the ball to himself. There's no way that they can do that. They're aren't playing with a lot of confidence either."

The gapping hole left by the departure of All-Pro wideout Davante Adams has come back to haunt the Packers. With no suitable replacement brought in, the team sits 16th in terms of overall passing yards (1,873) and 25th in yards per attempt (6.6) at the time of writing.

The Green Bay Packers were rather quiet as the NFL trade deadline passed. But as per NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, the side did try making a move for Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.

The team's trade package was deemed inadequate by the Denver Broncos. They demanded at least one second-round pick and another late-round pick for the wide receiver. With games against the Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, and Philadelphia Eagles coming up, the NFC North side will surely have its work cut out in November.
