On Thursday night, the Miami Dolphins suffered their first loss of the campaign, as divisional rivals Buffalo Bills rolled into Hard Rock Stadium and beat them 31-10. As underwhelming as their performance was, the injury to Tua Tagovailoa would be the team's primary concern.
On a fourth-and-4 play late in the third quarter, the Dolphins scrambled to gain the yardage needed to move the chains. Bills star Damar Hamlin read the play and charged toward the quarterback, prompting him to dive to get the first down.
However, his head crashed straight into the safety's midriff, leaving him concussed.

Tagovailoa was slow to get back up but walked on his own to the sideline before heading to the locker room where he was reportedly surrounded by his family and was awake and alert. He also had no issues moving his extremities.
Given the damage a head injury could cause, the quarterback and the Dolphins will consider themselves lucky. However, this is another chapter in Tagovailoa's long history with concussions, which is extremely worrying.
Tua Tagovailoa concussion history
Tagovailoa picked up his first concussion in the NFL under contentious circumstances. In a Week 3 game against the Bills in the 2022 season, the quarterback's head bounced worryingly off the floor after a tackle by Matt Milano. He couldn't stand straight on his feet and had to be evaluated by the independent neurologist on the sideline.
He was astonishingly cleared to return to the field. The Dolphins claimed that Tagovailoa had suffered a back injury, but the NFL cut ties with the neurologist, suggesting they made a massive mistake.
Four days later in the Dolphins' Thursday night game against the Bengals, the quarterback was slammed headfirst to the floor again. This time he couldn't pick himself off the floor and had to be carted off the field. He was officially diagnosed with a concussion.
In Week 16 against the Packers, Tagovailoa was tripped from behind and smashed his head on the floor, but he finished the game. However, a test after the loss confirmed the quarterback played the second half with a concussion.
The latest concussion is the third he has suffered in two years. He's already in extremely dangerous territory healthwise, and his long-term future will only be impacted more if he suffers any more brutal blows to his head.
