The Pittsburgh Steelers are retiring Franco Harris' legendary jersey #32 at halftime against the Las Vegas Raiders. This comes as a result of the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, but it also coincides with the untimely passing of Harris.

At the age of 72, Harris died this week. He was set to be a part of the ceremony, which has now undoubtedly changed shape due to his passing. What is still true is that his number will not be worn by any more Steelers players on the field.

This is a bit of a rare occurrence for the Steelers. They are tied as the most decorated franchise in NFL history, with six Super Bowls and countless playoff victories.

Despite that, and despite the abundance of incredible Hall of Fame level players, they haven't retired all that many numbers.

With Harris' 32 now enshrined and hanging in the rafters of Acrisure Stadium, they have now retired three numbers.

Joe Green and his number 75 was retired. Green was a Steeler for 13 years and made the Pro Bowl for 10 of his first 11 seasons. After a Hall of Fame career, no player in the Steelers' future will ever don that number again.

Ernie Stautner's number 70 was also retired. He joined the franchise in 1950 and was a Pro Bowler nine times with the team. He landed in the Hall of Fame in 1969 and no player will ever don that number again, either.

What numbers should the Steelers retire?

Many teams retire numbers fairly often. If they have a player they deem worthy, which most NFL franchises have an abundance of, they retire the number to honor them.

Pittsburgh hasn't really done that, but it's not for a lack of opportunities. Terry Bradshaw's #12 is a perfect example. Hines Ward's #86 is as well. Jack Lambert and his #58 jersey makes sense, too.

Troy Polamalu was one of the most electric players of his era and is deserving of the honor for his #43 jersey, too. For whatever reason, they haven't officially retired any of these numbers.
