Super Bowl XXXVIII: Patriots win second title

Tom Brady is the only quarterback to have won the Super Bowl in three different decades. He was also the oldest NFL MVP at 40 years old, the oldest Super Bowl MVP at 43 and the oldest QB selected to the Pro Bowl at the ripe old age of 44.

At the age of 26, Tom Brady led the New England Patriots to a 32-29 victory over the Carolina Panthers in 2004, their second Super Bowl victory. Brady led the team to a 14-2 regular-season record before marching to the Super Bowl.

Once there, Brady threw for 354 yards and three touchdowns, breaking the record for most Super Bowl completions by a quarterback with 32.

Brady directed a drive with five completions with 1:08 remaining in the fourth quarter and a 29-29 tie score to put the Patriots in position for Adam Vinatieri's game-winning 41-yard field goal. The Patriots defeated the Carolina Panthers 32-29, and Brady was named Super Bowl MVP for the second time.

Brady holds the majority of quarterback records, including the most passing yards, completions, touchdown passes and games started.

He leads the NFL in career quarterback victories and Super Bowl MVP Awards. He also holds the distinction of being the only MVP of the Super Bowl to play for two different teams.

Revisiting Super Bowl XXXVIII

The New England Patriots defeated the Carolina Panthers 32-29 in Super Bowl XXXVIII on Feb. 1, 2004, determining the NFL champion for the 2003 season. The game was held at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. With 144.4 million viewers at the time, this was the most-watched Super Bowl ever.

After finishing 11-5 during the regular season, the Panthers were making their first Super Bowl appearance. After finishing 14-2, the Patriots, led by coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady, were vying for their second Super Bowl title in three years.

The game is widely regarded as one of the most well-played and thrilling Super Bowls, with Sports Illustrated writer Peter King hailing it as the "greatest Super Bowl of all time."

Despite the fact that neither team scored in the first or third quarters, they finished with a total of 868 yards and 61 points. For a Super Bowl record of 26:55, the game was scoreless before the two teams combined for 24 points before halftime.

With four seconds remaining, Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri connected on a 41-yard field goal to seal the victory. Tom Brady, the quarterback for the New England Patriots, received his second Super Bowl MVP award.

The game is also remembered for its controversial halftime performance, during which Justin Timberlake briefly exposed Janet Jackson's nipple shield-covered breast during what was later dubbed a "wardrobe malfunction."
