Reports broke that DeSean Jackson signed with the Baltimore Ravens after a successful workout. Lamar Jackson now has another top offensive weapon available to him.

DeSean Jackson has been in the NFL for 14 years and brings a certain amount of experience to the position. He has been named to the Pro Bowl three times in his career in 2009, 2010 and 2013. In 2010, he was selected to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist and wide receiver for a unique occurrence. Where he will bring a particular heft to the team is his experience in long touchdowns. He holds the records for both 60+ and 80+ yard touchdowns with 26 and five respectively.

This marks DeSean Jackson's third team in two years as he spent last season, first with the Los Angeles Rams and then with the Las Vegas Raiders. He has played for the Philadelphia Eagles at two different times (2008-2013 and 2019-2020), the Washington Commanders (2014-2016) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2017-2018) in his career as well. He has 58 touchdowns in his career so far and more than 11,000 receiving yards.

Thus, adding DeSean Jackson with his long experience is a definite positive. It will give Lamar Jackson an experienced head in the locker room and a new threat on the field. The Ravens will hope it leads to better consistency and an upturn in results.

How does DeSean Jackson help Lamar Jackson and complement the other wide receivers?

The Baltimore Ravens are 3-3 after Week 6 of this NFL season. While Lamar Jackson and the offense have not played particularly badly, they have been let down at crucial moments as they have surrendered the initiative to other teams. Adding DeSean Jackson adds an experienced head to the roster.

Lamar Jackson will also be without primary wide receiver Rashod Bateman for the time being as the latter tries to overcome a foot injury. Hence, adding Jackson makes imminent sense to the proceedings as well.

Other receivers on the depth chart include DeMarcus Robinson, Devin Duvernay, James Proche II and Tylan Wallace. With the exception of DeMarcus Robinson, none of them have more than a couple of years of experience in the league. Devin Duvernay is also the only one from that group to have made it to the Pro Bowl.

Adding the veteran wide receiver will add stability to the current wide receiver group available at Lamar Jackson's disposal. This will help address some of the shortfalls that are there in the current wide receiver corps.
