Last week, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence missed just the second game of his four-year NFL career. Lawrence was sidelined for the game against the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 10 due to soreness in his non-throwing shoulder.

The soreness first surfaced after the Jaguars' 28-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 3 and was held out of practice last week with the expectation that he would be sidelined.

As the Jaguars prepare to face the Detroit Lions this Sunday, Lawrence will miss a second-straight game. According to Adam Schefter and multiple other reports, the Jaguars will rest Lawrence for this matchup.

Schefter tweeted:

"With their bye after this week, Jaguars will not play quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Sunday versus the Lions. Lawrence is dealing with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder."

After Sunday's game against the Lions, the Jaguars will be on their bye week, getting a week to rest their players. As of now, the Jaguars are optimistic that Lawrence will be able to return following the bye.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported shortly before the Jaguars' game against the Vikings that there is a chance the Jaguars could shut down Lawrence for the rest of the season with his serious AC joint sprain.

With Trevor Lawrence officially inactive for a second-straight game, backup quarterback Mac Jones will get the start for the Jaguars this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Jones will be making his second start as a Jaguar. The hometown kid was traded to the Jaguars this off-season from the New England Patriots to serve as Lawrence's backup. He got his first call last week against the Vikings and didn't play his best game.

In the Jaguars' 12-7 loss to the Vikings, Jones completed 14-of-22 passes for 111 yards and two interceptions. He rushed for eight yards on five carries and a touchdown.

Jones will get a second chance this week to show why the Jaguars traded for him. C.J. Beathard will serve as his backup.
