Jarvis Landry's injury update: How long is the Saints WR out for?

Jarvis Landry during Los Angeles Chargers v New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints lost Jarvis Landry to injury in a season where not much has gone right for the team or the player. He has recorded 272 yards this season and one touchdown, the worst performance of his career. The New Orleans Saints, meanwhile, are 5-9. They have a chance of making the playoffs because the woeful NFC South sees the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their leaders at 6-8.

One of the reasons Jarvis Landry has been unable to play to his full potential this season is because of an ankle injury that has been nagging him throughout the season. The Saints could have tried to see him until the end of the year and see if he could contribute to making it to the playoffs. However, it seems such an approach was doing more harm than good. Now, New Orleans has taken the decision to put him on injured reserve. Since it requires, at least, four games before a person can return from injured reserve, he is done for the year.

Jarvis Landry disappoints for his hometown team

It is quite a sad update for all romantic NFL fans. Most players do not get to play for their home teams in the NFL. Even someone as great as Tom Brady has never got to play for his home team, the San Francisco 49ers, despite giving them the chance to sign him.

However, Jarvis Landry was coming home this season. He had played with great distinction for the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns. From 2015 to 2019, he breached 1000 yards in three of the five and went above 950 in all seasons. He was as elite as they come and the New Orleans Saints were getting a bonafide superstar based on stats alone. Throw into the mix that he was local boy, it was the perfect combination of heart and mind.

Joining the Saints was supposed to be his opportunity to return to his roots and make the magic happen. Instead, it looks as though he will be a free agent again at the end of the season and that his future might lie elsewhere.

It is an extremely sad ending to the year for him and the countless fans who were rooting for him. The best-case scenario for him now is that he fully recovers from his injury and regains his previous form, even though it is unlikely to be with his home team.
