Garrett Wilson recorded one of the greatest touchdown catches of all time for the Jets against the Texans and it has the potential to change their season. Aaron Rodgers dropped back and launched a deep ball in the wide receiver's direction hoping that he would make the necessary adjustments to escape Kamari Lassiter's attention.

It did not look like there was anything there as the ball dropped over his shoulder. Then Garrett Wilson did something nearly impossible. He contorted his body to come back to the ball while traveling in the other direction. As he was airborne, he extended his right hand and caught the ball behind his head. There was not much space left in the endzone and the corner was confident that he had pushed the wide receiver out.

The referees concurred and it was initially ruled out an incomplete pass. But on replay, after the Jets challenged it, it emerged that the Jets player had somehow grounded his shin inbound. It was remarkable and it immediately brought some reaction from NFL legends. Pat McAfee called it sorcery, Micah Parsons said wow, and J.J. Watt referred to how George Pickens got one foot down twice but could not catch a touchdown for the Steelers but Garrett Wilson could.

Jets fans agreed with what these players had to say and they went on X/Twitter to give their own versions of amazement. Here are some of the reactions.

"ngl [sic] that’s the best catch i’ve [sic] seen in my life" - opined one fan.
"This is the greatest catch I've ever seen." - concurred another.
"Give Wilson catch of the year already" - said someone else.

Garrett Wilson's catch against Texans might change Jets' 2024 fortunes

Garrett Wilson's catch was a thing of beauty but it might have more practical use for the Jets going forward. The context is key here. The Jets had a bad first half and were trailing the Texans 10-7 at that point. Aaron Rodgers had picked up what he thought was a first down, only for a penalty to bring it back and make it a 3rd-and-19.

It was in that situation that the quarterback threw the ball and it seemed as if that spiral contained all the hope New York fans had for the 2024 NFL season going forward. The reception gave the Jets a 14-10 lead and it was one they would not relinquish for the rest of the game as they ran out 21-13 winners.

After the harrowing loss to the Patriots last week, New York was 2-6 and bottom of the AFC East. Houston was 2-6 and leading the AFC South. This was a matchup that they were underdogs in but Garrett Wilson helped change the narrative. Now, with all but one of the teams that they are yet to face having a 0.500 record or worse, the Jets suddenly have a chance to redeem this year. This could be the turning point of their 2024 season.
