“Eat d**k”- Lamar Jackson's wild jibe to fan on Twitter led to homophobia controversy

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is currently trying to secure himself a new contract, but so far, only the non-exclusive franchise tag has come forth.

While that is currently dominating the headlines across the NFL landscape, we are going back to last year when the Ravens quarterback had a lapse in judgment.

A person on Twitter made their feelings known about the Ravens' loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars after it was reported that Jackson wanted a $250 million guaranteed contract.

Jackson saw the tweet and responded in a manner which he realized afterwards wasn't correct.

This type of interaction isn't exactly what the Ravens wanted from their star player and the tweet was up for over three hours before being deleted. But that was more than enough time for fans to take a screenshot and hold on to the exchange forever.

It was clearly a lapse in judgment from Jackson as he was clearly irked by what the fan had tweeted. As a professional athlete, he knows that he simply can't react in that manner. We haven't seen any more of these types of exchanges from the quarterback, which is a good sign as he chases a lucrative contract.

We just hope that this exchange last year doesn't come into consideration when discussing that new deal.

Lamar Jackson to no longer be a Raven?

While that Twitter exchange between Lamar Jackson and the fan was last year, could that have an impact on the current contract negotiations? We would like to think not.

However, when this much money is reportedly being discussed, any blemish can be used against someone. Now, it's clear that Jackson wasn't being homophobic or anything like that, but that isn't how you want a player who is looking to earn a huge guaranteed deal to act.

Given this is the only time that Lamar Jackson has ever lashed out in such a way, it is more of an outlier, not the actual person he is.

Still, as his contract efforts seem to be going nowhere, is it possible that Jackson won't be a Raven past the 2023 season? Going by all the indications, that very well looks to be the case.
