The Eagles selected DeJean in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, and he played a key role in Philadelphia's secondary. Entering his sophomore season, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said Philadelphia will try DeJean at safety.

After Fangio's comments, fans were confused about why the Eagles want to put DeJean at safety.

"Lmao he can’t play corner," a fan added.
"He’s a great corner but I really think he’d be an elite level safety, maybe later in his career he’d make the move," a fan wrote.

DeJean would compete for a starting safety job and remain a key part of the Eagles' secondary.

"reed and coop at safety? Ehh I think that nickel spot is more important..it would be easier to replace coop at safety than at that nickel spot," a fan added.
"A pick-6 of Mahomes in the Super Bowl and still there's more accountability. That's what winning organizations do," a fan wrote.

Whether or not DeJean will actually make the full-time move to safety is to be seen, but it's something the Eagles are thinking about.

Eagles DC opens up on Cooper DeJean's fit in defense

Entering training camp, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is looking to switch Cooper DeJean to safety. Fangio believes DeJean can play well at cornerback and safety, as it adds more flexibility to the defense.

"We’d like to keep him at nickel, and then in our base package we’ll find a spot for him, either at corner or safety,” Fangio said of DeJean, via NBC Sports. “A lot of it will end up depending on how the other guys develop and where we most need him.
"It will be determined by what’s best for him and what’s best for the team — and what’s best for the team will win out in that decision. But he’s capable of playing corner, and he’s capable of playing safety.”

Fangio, however, says he will need to see how Cooper DeJean does at safety in training camp and preseason games to see if it will be a full-time move.
