As we approach Thanksgiving weekend, it's clear that some franchises are in desperate need of a new head coach. A couple of franchises already chose to fire a few, namely the New York Jets with Robert Saleh and the New Orleans Saints with Dennis Allen. Come season end, we could well see a few more being fired.
The coaching talent pool is a pretty interesting one for 2025. The likes of Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel and Jon Gruden will all be eyeing a job whereas up-and-coming coordinators like Detroit Lions OC Ben Johnson and Tampa Bay Buccaneers OC Liam Coen are also names to watch.
The Jets job in particular will be a highly sought-after one given the talent pool at the franchise. The Jets have hired The 33rd Team to consult on names for their GM and HC vacancies but one former NFL quarterback believes they should go all-in on Vrabel.
On the "Dan Patrick Show" this week, ex-Bucs QB Chris Simms made the case for Vrabel to the Jets, saying:
“There’s a lot of good candidates out there right now. If I’m the New York Jets, I am calling Mike Vrabel. He’s made for New York. He’s Bill Parcels Jr. He will get that organization back on track. That would be my number one guy.”
Why Jets HC job could be the most attractive one in the NFL
The Jets roster is not lacking talent, though they will have to make a few moves to tighten things up. The core of their roster features talented young players including Garrett Wilson (24), Breece Hall (23), Olu Fashanu (22), Alijah Vera-Tucker (25), Will McDonald IV (25) and Sauce Gardner (24). The franchise will likely have a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, giving them another opportunity to add some talent.
Provided Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams stay in town, that's as good a roster as any to compete.
Former Jets head coach Rex Ryan, who has been politicking for the job over the past two weeks, has time and again made the case that he didn't have this much talent on his roster back when he was head coach.
If the Jets can get their act together, we could see them field a respectable product at MetLife Stadium next year in what could very well be Aaron Rodgers' final year in the NFL.
