Patrick Mahomes is just 27 years old. He has already achieved a career that is leaving many veterans behind. He was already playing their fifth straight AFC championship game with the Kansas City Chiefs. During that period, he has now thrown 14 touchdown passes that took him past Joe Montana on 13. He currently trails only Tom Brady, who has 21 touchdown passes.
It beggars belief that he has achieved that at such a young age. He is nearly two decades younger than Tom Brady. If he goes on to have a career as long as the GOAT, there is every chance that he will pass him. They have not looked like slowing down despite losing Tyreek Hill this offseason and there is every reason to believe he can keep performing even with a changing receiving group.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce also strike up a big partnership
Joe Montana was not the only one left behind by Patrick Mahomes as Travis Kelce left behind the legendary Jerry Rice. The Kansas City duo overtook the San Francisco 49ers duo in playoff touchdowns. Joe Montana threw to Jerry Rice for 12 touchdown passes during their playoff careers. Mahomes and Kelce now have 13 after the tight end caught a touchdown in the first half of the game. Again, they are just behind Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, who have 15 touchdowns in their careers.
Despite all these records, they have some way to go before they get to be spoken about in the same breath when it comes to Super Bowl wins. They have won only one, whereas the others have won multiple Lombardi Trophies. Thankfully, due to their 23-20 win against the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game, they now have a chance to get their second Super Bowl win.
That is the least they deserved after getting to the AFC Championship game for five straight seasons and lifting the Lombardi Trophy only once. However, it will not be easy against the Philadelphia Eagles, who demolished the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game.
