Two years ago, Netflix followed in the footsteps of its immensely popular Formula 1-centric 'Drive to Survive' series by launching one for the NFL. This one featured three quarterbacks –Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota – with cameras following the players around as they went about their business on and off the field.
Netflix's 'Quarterback' series gave a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the family lives of each quarterback through a grueling 18-week season. Kirk Cousins was among the more popular personalities as fans hailed his down-to-earth persona and family-centric life in Minnesota.
Cousins looked back at the series, on the Pardon My Take podcast this week:
“My wife was the star of the show besides Patrick Mahomes."
"She definitely gets recognized a lot more (in public), which is fun. People getting to know me is what’s really fun about it."
Cousins added that the Netflix show also ensured that his kids would have the opportunity to revisit his time on the field.
“Just for posterity’s sake," he said. "My boys are pretty young so in 10 years to be able to pull up that show and say ‘Hey boys, you want to go down memory lane and see what your dad did during the 2022 football season, I think that will be valuable content to have.”
Netflix's 'Quarterback' captured Cousins' final moments of tough 2022 season
The third episode of the Netflix show, titled 'Kings of Pain,' revealed how Cousins battled a severe injury to his ribs during a Week 10 showdown in November against the Buffalo Bills.
While Josh Allen's elbow injury dominated the headlines, the show revealed how Cousins nursed an injury of his own. The episode showed Cousins telling the camera:
“Everything hurts.
“I’m pretty beat up. The bruises on my ribs on both sides are not visible. They may come to the surface at some point. When you have pain right here in your midsection, it’s just kind of hard to think about much else.”
The Vikings eventually won the game 33-30 after Cousins went 30-50 on throws for 357 yards, one touchdown and two INTs.
