The New York Jets announced Thursday that they had hired Nathaniel Hackett as their new offensive coordinator. Hackett, who was the head coach for the Denver Broncos for just 15 games in 2022 before being fired, will take over for Mike LaFleur, who left the team a few weeks ago.
As the Jets try to improve their offense and perhaps help quarterback Zach Wilson mature, some believe there is another reason for hiring Hackett. Getting another offensive perspective may help Zach Wilson as he looks to improve his play.
Senior NFL insider for CBS Sports, Josina Anderson, tweeted that this may be the first move that the team makes, floating the possibility of the team signing Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
In her tweet, Anderson insinuated that New York might be able to get Rodgers to play for them if he can reunite with his former offensive coordinator, Hackett.

Beckham Jr. didn't play in 2022 because of the ACL tear he suffered in the Super Bowl. He apparently only wants to sign with a contender, and this could be the 'dream team' that he would like to be a part of.
NFL insider believes New York Jets hired Nathaniel Hackett to get Aaron Rodgers
Nathaniel Hackett is seen as a much better offensive coordinator than he was a head coach. His resume on the offensive side of the ball comes from his time with the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
While many are questioning the move to hire Hackett because of his inability to make things work with Russell Wilson and the Broncos offense, one NFL insider feels it is clear that the New York Jets want Aaron Rodgers, which is the reason behind the hiring of Hackett.
“They want Aaron Rodgers. That’s what this is all about,” a source was quoted as saying by Matt Lomardo.
The New York Jets will have to trade for Rodgers, as he signed a contract extension with the Packers last season. That won't come cheap, as the Packers will likely want multiple first-round draft picks and other compensation.
However, after missing the NFC playoffs this season and with inconsistency in the Packers offense, Rodgers and Green Bay may be willing to part ways and officially hand over the reins to Jordan Love.
