Jahmyr Gibbs is set to become one of the biggest darlings for fantasy football players during the 2024 season. The Detroit Lions superstar enjoyed a productive rookie year, and although it's a one-two punch with David Montgomery, he'll enjoy the bulk of carries in his second year.

That's, obviously, if he can stay healthy. And this might become a concern for fantasy players over the next few days, as he suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's camp practice. It's unclear how much time he'll miss, but he has already dealt with hamstring injuries in 2023 (missed two games) and during spring practices.

NFL fans were quick to point out that these issues can always hurt a season for running backs. In Gibbs' case, this could be even worse as he's also an active player on passing downs:

"The fantasy football community will surely react very rationally to this tweet," joked one fan.
"My hamstrings on it’s way to Detroit already," said another.
"Damn, I hope it doesn’t linger. This is his breakout season," another fan said.

The Lions picked Jahmyr Gibbs with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, and he shared a lot of carries with David Montgomery during his rookie year. While his management might've raffled some fantasy owners, it was a smart thing to do, considering he missed multiple games with... a hamstring injury.

Is Jahmyr Gibbs set for a breakout season?

He had an excellent first year as Detroit reached the NFC Championship Game. The running back finished the season with 945 rushing yards, 316 receiving yards and 11 total touchdowns, along with a Pro Bowl selection.

Sure, using such a high pick in a running back isn't popular these days, but he was extremely explosive with the ball in his hands. The 5.2 yards per carry was one of the best averages in the league, and he could easily surpass the 1,000 mark in 2024.

The Lions should just be smart with how they use him. Looking at his injury history, it's clear that they can't overload Gibbs. But the talent is massive and he could be a huge loss for the franchise next season if he is forced to sit on the sidelines for some time.
