NFL fans react as Patriots announce the return of Bill O'Brien as OC

Former Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is returning to the NFL and will be the new offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.

O'Brien was the Patriots' offensive coordinator from 2007-2011 before he became the Texans' head coach until 2020. Patriots fans are excited to have O'Brien back as they need a good offensive coordinator after seeing them struggle this season.

Here's how NFL fans on social media reacted to the news of O'Brien returning as the Patriots' offensive coordinator:

Bill O'Brien went 54-52 with the Houston Texans before the franchise parted ways with him. Since then, he has been the offensive coordinator at Alabama, where New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones played under him.

This is very positive news for the Patriots, who averaged just 21.4 points per game this season. Bill O'Brien is a massive upgrade over Joe Judge and Matt Patricia.

Mac Jones had a great rookie season in the NFL, but the loss of Josh McDaniels to the Las Vegas Raiders hit him hard. He regressed in his sophomore year and needs an offensive coordinator like O'Brien to help him.

Jones had a passer rating of 84.8 after throwing for 2,997 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 14 games this season.

Getting the opportunity to work with his former collegiate offensive coordinator in the NFL will certainly help Mac Jones get better next season. However, the Patriots still need to make some moves in order to make their offense better.

DeAndre Hopkins might be available for a trade, and New England should definitely try to get him. Apart from that, getting a player like Jordan Addison or Quentin Johnston via the draft would be the best possible scenario for them.

Nobody knows how long Bill Belichick will coach in the NFL, and as a result, the Patriots need to put together a better squad for next season. Hopefully, we will see them being aggressive in free agency and also in the trade market.
