Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is generally considered one of the most endearing players in today's NFL. His bubbly personality has just been as highly acclaimed as his elite receiving skills ever since he entered the league last year and shattered multiple rookie records.

That image was seemingly threatened, however, during the Rams' game at the divisional rival Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Just before halftime, Riq Woolen intercepted a pass and went out of bounds.

But neither he nor linebacker Tyrel Dodson seemed to realize that the play had been blown dead. Nacua did, and punched Dodson, who had been blocking him, and even shoved him:

There was much outrage at the call:

"Even as a Seahawks fan I got to admit that’s stupid af. I’ve seen DK do worse and not get ejected."
"The refereeing this year continues to be atrocious. Horrible call," one fan said.
"Weak league," another fan said.

More of the comments blasting the ejection call can be seen below:

"The officiating is becoming comically bad," one rued.
"That wasn't a punch," another complained.
"How you gonna eject a dude for defending himself…" another wondered.

As of this writing, Nacua has had just a single 11-yard catch. The Rams' leading receiver so far has been Cooper Kupp with ten catches for 89 yards.

Rams HC Sean McVay discusses Puka Nacua's injury ahead of Seahawks game

One may be wondering why Puka Nacua was cleared to play despite a knee injury, even though his position relies on athleticism - a trait that can disappear if the knees are not fully healthy.

Head coach Sean McVay has his concerns as well, saying on Friday:

"I think the good thing is what the hope and expectation is, that sometimes when you do that coming off an injury, it kind of scares you as much as anything where maybe you broke up some scar tissue. When you look at the picture, it was really encouraging structurally."

He continued by opining that the knee would not bother the sophomore, especially after consultation with top medical officer Reggie Scott:

“It's not like it's an arthritic knee or anything like that. It's just been kind of unfortunate where you've had the two instances that we talked about and then yesterday. Our hope is that it was more of a scare than really anything... I don't anticipate that being something that's going to be an issue moving forward.”

Heading into the final quarter, the Rams and Seahawks are tied at 13 apiece.
