Davante Adams had a great connection with Aaron Rodgers during their time at the Green Bay Packers. After leaving for Las Vegas, Adams cycled through four different quarterbacks with his new team before finally having enough and forcing a trade that would reunite him with his old cohort, and he has finally reaped its reward.
In the fourth quarter of Thursday's game against the Houston Texans, the wide receiver scored his first touchdown as a New York Jet, sprinting past safety Jalen Pitre before catching a pass from the multiple-time MVP:
There was much joy after the play from fans:
"Rodgers to Adams, brings back memories"
"Now we having fun," another added.
More comments can be seen below:
"Congrats Davante!" one celebrated.
"GO PACK GO," another reminisced.
"The Jets are gonna win a game!?" another wondered.
The Jets would win the game 21-13 after limiting the Texans to a field goal on the next drive, then recovering the onside kick.
Davante Adams had praised Aaron Rodgers before rejoining him on Jets
Davante Adams' connection with Aaron Rodgers was one of the most potent in the league for eight years, as he led the league in receiving touchdowns once and took the Green Bay Packers to four NFC Championship Games.
Earlier in October, just before he was traded to the Jets, he had already been very positive towards his then-former teammate. Speaking to Up & Adams, he said:
"Aaron is the type of guy (who) may be in the huddle, and he'll tell you a two-minute situation with 46 seconds left in the game. He'll say, 'Hey Tae or [Jets wide receiver] Garrett [Wilson], you remember back in 2022 when we got that one look, and you didn't look quick enough? I need you to get your eyes around quick.'"
He also admitted to missing his old passer:
"How could you not? You know, how could you not?"
The reunion did happen a month later, with him noting that it was a much-needed and welcome change. According to Rich Cimini, the two ex-Packers sat together during a team meeting, and Rodgers told Adams:
“How crazy is this?”
The wideout would later tell the press:
"Obviously, having him as my quarterback again, he's part of why I am who I am, and why I turned into the player I am."
Davante Adams would finish Thursday with seven catches for 91 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.
