Aaron Rodgers finds Garrett Wilson for a touchdown vs. Texans

The New York Jets have been a terrible team in the 2020s, especially on the offense. Aaron Rodgers has shockingly failed to live up to the expectations that were placed on him when he arrived in 2023 via trade from Green Bay, and whatever highlights he has are few and far between.

One of them was this touchdown that Garrett Wilson caught from him with one hand in the third quarter of Thursday's game against the Houston Texans:

There was a sense of excitement after the play:

"Jets are back?"
"Bout time! There we go!" one fan exclaimed.
"took em long enough, almost fell asleep," another fan said.

More comments can be seen below:

"WOW," one marveled.
"THIS IS WHO THE JETS OFFENSE SHOULD BE RUN THROUGH, NOT DAVANTE," another demanded.
"Jets' offense DID SOMETHING!!!" another rejoiced.

The Texans would retake the lead almost five minutes later via a 41-yard field goal by all-time franchise scoring leader Ka'imi Fairbairn.

Jets' offensive woes fall mainly on Aaron Rodgers

It can be said that Aaron Rodgers is still feeling the aftereffects of his Achilles tear on just his fourth snap as a Jet.

Speaking of snaps, they have been the slowest at getting the ball out of their center's hands, at 6.59 seconds according to CBS. They also have six delay-of-game penalties as a result of this slow snapping, the second-most behind the Denver Broncos. One scout gave a possible explanation:

"Aaron Rodgers has always been that way. He likes to get as much information pre-snap as possible."

And at the New England Patriots on Sunday, another troubling fact emerged: the team had used all their three first-half timeouts by their tenth offensive play. And for interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, it is a problem. He said after the game:

"We've got to be better from an operations standpoint, just overall, and that's every single player, every single coach."

Rodgers concurs with that notion, naming himself the main culprit. He said before tonight's game:

"It falls on me at the end. I got to make sure that we're not having those. I mean, there were a lot of things that went into that, but we got to get lined up, we got to get the call right. but in the end, I got to get the ball snapped if I can."

The Jets have since retaken the lead via another touchdown to Garrett Wilson - a seeming incompletion that was eventually reversed upon further review.
