This comes after Owusu-Koramoah had a career year in 2023, setting career-highs in tackles (101), sacks (3.5), pass deflections (6) and interceptions (2). Owusu-Koramoah had been a three-year starting linebacker for the Browns since being drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Upon learning the news of his contract extension, fans were left questioning how the Browns have the cap space to make such moves. Some other fans reminded fellow social media users how good their front office has been.
Here's how fans reacted:
"Remember when Barnwell, Rosenthal, etc said Browns wouldn’t be able to keep core players because of Watson’s contract? Has anyone been more wrong," one fan wrote.
"But, I thought the Browns wouldn't be able to make these moves because of salary cap? Berry: Hold my beer," one person said.
"ANOTHER AB MASTERCLASS RAHH," one fan added.
On the other hand, fans think the deal for both sides was great value. Some fans even think the Browns got a good deal given other linebacker contracts handed out this off-season.
Owusu-Koramoah was able to get a contract after three seasons because he would have been set to become a free agent next off-season.
Here's how other fans reacted:
"Damn that’s kinda cheap ngl," one fan said.
"Browns absolutely fleeced here JOK is so so so good," one person said.
"Beast. I would have thought he'd get more tbh," one fan wrote.
Why did Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah slide into the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft?
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was one of the best linebackers coming out of the 2021 NFL Draft. It was almost a lock that he was going to be a first-round selection.
During his junior and senior seasons at Notre Dame, Owusu-Koramoah recorded 142 tackles, seven sacks, seven pass deflections, one interception and five forced fumbles. He also had four fumble recoveries and scored a defensive touchdown.
The linebacker fell to the second round of the draft as he was taken 52nd overall by the Cleveland Browns. His drop was very surprising, but there was reason for it.
According to NFL reporter Adam Schefter, Owusu-Koramoah had a heart issue pop up late in the draft process, which scared some teams away. The Browns still showed some belief in him as they traded up seven spots with the Carolina Panthers to select him.
Now, Owusu-Koramoah has been awarded a lucrative contract extension by the Browns and has become a good quality starting linebacker in the NFL.
