As the San Francisco 49ers were struggling against the Philadelphia Eagles, NFL fans noticed Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance laughing on the sidelines.

Fans were not impressed with Garoppolo and Lance, as the team's season was ending and they didn't seem to care.

Here are the reactions from some of the fans expressed through Twitter:

Jimmy Garoppolo is not going to be with the 49ers next year, and Trey Lance has an uphill task to dethrone Brock Purdy from the starter job. But that does not change the fact that when your team is losing badly in the biggest game of the year, smiling and laughing on the sidelines is a very bad look.

Brock Purdy had initially left the field but did return to the game later when backup Josh Johnson left with a concussion, although he clearly wasn't fit enough to play. The Eagles ended up winning the game 31-7, clinching their first Super Bowl berth since 2018.

For San Francisco, it was their second straight conference championship loss. They also lost to the Los Angeles Rams 20-17 last season in a game they led 17-7 in the third quarter. This time, the 49ers did not stand a chance whatsoever.

Brock Purdy vs. Trey Lance: Who will be the 49ers' quarterback in 2023?

Since both Jimmy Garoppolo and Josh Johnson will be free agents, it's going to be a battle between Brock Purdy and Trey Lance.

Both have strong arguments. Purdy proved himself in a tough situation as a rookie, and his contract will be cheaper, which is very important in the long term. Lance is the guy the franchise traded a lot of picks to move up in the draft and pick, so he has a very strong argument also.

What's going to happen, then? There will probably be a training camp battle between the two guys, and whoever seems more ready will win the job. Trey Lance has a higher ceiling, but Brock Purdy has proved himself in the pros. This is likely going to be one of the very best stories of the offseason.
