New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones came in as a rookie last year and saw a lot of success, having the best rookie season of any quarterback. He was drafted in the first round, won Rookie of the Year, and made the Pro Bowl. While he he found great success, not everyone thought it was good for Jones.

Ben Volin, who's a senior writer for the Boston Globe, spoke on NBC Sports Boston about how Jones changed after seeing a little bit of success. He noted that making the Pro Bowl and the NFL's top 100 list was the worst thing that could happen to him.

"Making the Pro Bowl and making the NFL's top 100 list, worst thing to happen to Mac Jones last year. It was a sign that... he's a star, he's doing the griddy, and everyone's eating it up on social media.
"Sorry Mac Jones, you're a rookie. Your team wanted nothing to do with you in the widy game vs. Buffalo, the team fell apart at the end of last year. I'm telling you, making the Pro Bowl pumped his head up a lot, it gave him an impression that he is a lot more than what he really was. I think it was bad deal for Mac."

Volin added that the position Mac is in now with Bailey Zappe potentially taking over is good because he needed to be humbled.

"I think it certainly inflates his ego, absolutely. Alabama kid, he comes in, it's the playoffs, everyone's talking about [that] he's better than Trevor Lawrence and oh, he's making the Pro Bowl now, everyone's loving him up. This kid needs to be humbled and I think that's a good thing for him right now."

Bailey Zappe could take Mac Jones' spot for the New England Patriots

While Mac Jones had a stellar rookie season, he could find himself in a Drew Bledsoe-like position.

As a rookie, he shone, throwing for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions while leading the Patriots to the playoffs with a 10-7 record.

During the Pats' week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Jones suffered an ankle injury that has kept him sidelined since.

Backup quarterback Brian Hoyer got hurt as he filled in for Jones and then came undrafted rookie, Bailey Zappe.

Zappe has recorded 596 yards, four passing touchdowns, and just one interception in three games he's played in while going 2-0 as the starter. He could take Jones' job as Bill Belichick remains non-comittal on a starter.
