Patrick Mahomes' ex-teammate makes feelings clear on why Chiefs QB is "still the most dominant player" in NFL

The lack of offensive production for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs was a concern in 2024. Unlike in previous years, where their offense was always on top of things, the Chiefs mostly won games through their defense; Kansas City had the league's 15th-best offense, averaging 22.7 points per game.

Mahomes did not enter the MVP conversation in 2024, with his numbers not close to his usual production. However, the Chiefs still made the Super Bowl for the fifth time in six years, despite losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22 and failing to become the first-ever team to win three Super Bowls.

Although there was a noticeable dip in their performance, former Chiefs' running back LeSean McCoy does not believe that Kansas City will fall in 2025.

On Monday's episode of "The Facility," McCoy points out how Mahomes remains the league's most dangerous quarterback, noting how he had to deal with many problems in the previous season:

“Do we fear the Chiefs' offense? Because a lot of questions are, 'Is Patrick Mahomes still the most dominant or best player in the league?' Yes, McCoy said. "At his worst, AFC Championship Game; at his best, Super Bowl champion."
"They're only going to get better. Last year, they had to deal with not having his number one wide receiver, his number two wide receiver, and their number three had to be your number one. How many quarterbacks are winning like that?" McCoy added.

Patrick Mahomes' Super Bowl display raised concerns for the 2025 season

Although Patrick Mahomes was able to salvage something late in the game, this was by far his worst performance in a championship game. Mahomes ended the game with 21 completed passes out of 32 attempts, three touchdowns, two interceptions and 257 yards.

The quarterback also added 25 rushing yards on four carries; he could never settle in the pocket due to constant pressure coming from all sides of the Eagles' front, who had six sacks throughout the game.

Mahomes accepted blame for the result, but as LeSean McCoy mentioned, the Chiefs' offense had to deal with many problems during the season. Having a fresh slate with fewer injuries could only lead to a better offensive performance.
