The Las Vegas Raiders have become the laughingstock of the AFC West, falling to 2-7 after a 24-41 loss at the Cincinnati Bengals. As a result, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy has paid the ultimate price.

In the aftermath of the game, the team's erstwhile offensive coordinator was announced to have been relieved of his duties.

And there was much rejoicing from Raider Nation, given the collapse that quarterbacks Gardner Minshew II and the rest of the offense have had to endure under him.

"Justified! Dude was trash."

More of it can be seen below:

"Welp that happened faster than expected…," one remarked.
They told me “Getsy” was gonna do better in Las Vegas since he didn’t have to deal with Justin Fields being his QB anymore," another reminisced.
"ANNOUNCE BEARS FIRING MATT EBERFLUS," another hoped.

Under Getsy, the Raiders were third in passing completions (211) but covered only 2,030 yards. They were also in the bottom six in passing touchdowns (9) and among the top five in interceptions thrown (10) and fourth in sacks taken (30).

Their ground game was also nonexistent, ranking second-to-last in rushing yards (692), with only the 656-yard Dallas Cowboys being worse; and last in yards per carry (3.5).

Raiders’ firing of Luke Getsy had been foreshadowed

Vic Tafur was one of many who had foreseen this change coming. In his post-mortem of the Raiders-Bengals game, he had said:

"Quarterback Gardner Minshew II was benched for the third time this season, and offensive coordinator Luke Getsy may not survive the bye week. And ironically, it’s the offense’s early game success that makes the rest of the games like Sunday feel especially miserable."

In an interesting twist, when visiting the Just Win podcast this week, he had acknowledged that the team had indeed underperformed under Getsy, but also that he was getting tired of the narratives - from the quarterback turnovers to the lack of a ground game, and up to the offensive line’s struggles:

"Clearly, the offense stinks. I don’t know if that’s all on Luke. I mean, we talked about this before… So I don’t know what difference it would make. I know fans want change, but I guess the hope is that for the Raiders, and the coaches have said this to the players, you kind of keep working at it. You hope it clicks at some point… I’m at the end of my rope with that one."

Former Washington OC Scott Turner has since emerged as a prime candidate to assume the role.
