Sean McVay has been lauded as one of the best "young stars" in the NFL coaching realm ever since he took control of the Los Angeles Rams in 2017. He has reached the Super Bowl twice, winning one of them, in addition to his general success in making the playoffs every so often.

Monday's game against the Miami Dolphins, however, stands out as one of his worst performances. The team had multiple opportunities to reach the endzone over 60 minutes, but all of their drives ended in either a turnover or a field goal.

The last of said field goals occurred on third down – with just seconds left in the game, which confused even Josh Cohen, an ESPN radio host working in the Miami area.

Soon, both bewilderment and anger emanated from fans on X/Twitter:

More reactions soon followed on X:

"There’s no way you kick the FG down by 11. Chicken sh*t call," one fan said.
"Sean McVay must have money on the Dolphins," one fan added.
"I wish McVay would just retire," another fan said.

Sean McVay has harsh criticism for Rams’ offensive performance vs. Dolphins

It is safe to say that the Rams were offensively “putrid” on Monday, and Sean McVay had plenty of examples within plain sight of him.

Matthew Stafford threw an interception early on, his record-tying sixth game with at least one. He was also sacked four times and failed to find the endzone for just the second time in his career.

Primary weapons Kyren Williams and Puka Nacua, despite otherwise dominating their respective categories, dropped the ball at least once each (the former on a lost fumble). And of course, neither of them managed to reach the endzone.

It represented another wastage of a strong game by the defense, which sacked Tua Tagovailoa thrice - one of those instances even causing the Dolphins to lose possession. And McVay could feel it as well. During his post game presser, he said:

“Pretty straightforward. We didn’t do a nearly good enough job offensively… We have to go back and look at this tape, it’s got to be a lot better.”

He then summed up the offensive performance with one word:

“Inconsistent.”

The Rams next visit the New England Patriots on November 17.
